Literature And Iqbal

"Nations are born in the hearts of poets; they prosper and die in the hands of politicians."                                                                                       --Iqbal, Stray Reflections (1910) Our mentor, Mr. Khurram Ali Shafique has deduced after years of his research in Iqbal studies that  Iqbal believed that literature plays the most important role in the life of a nation. In fact, he treated literature like a collective dream which comes true. Therefore, the most courageous and daring stand which Iqbal Studies demands from us is that we insist that if anything is wrong in the world, its ultimate root can be traced in the kind of literature that has been venerated, and if we want to bring any positive change, the first step has to be the repre...

Respect For Hadis

In our hadis class we were studying following hadis: عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه عن النبي قال "ان الصدق يهدئ الى البر وان البر يهدى الى الجنة - وان الرجل ليصدق حتى يكتب عندالله صديقا- وان الكذب يهدي الى الفجور- وان الفجور يهدى النار- و انالرجل ليكذب حتى يكتب عندالله كذابا (متفق اليه 'Verily, truth leads to good and verily good leads to jannah. And verily, a man speaks truth until he is written as honest in Allah's book. And verily lie leads to bad. and verily bad leads to fire. And a man lies until he is written a liar, in Allah's book." We were learning it with word to word translation from Arabic to Urdu and you can see its small with a lot of words shared from Urdu। A class-fellow said, 'miss its so easy। We've learnt it already.' and what did our teacher say? She said, "Its easy to learn it but how much easy it is to act upon it?" And really, we are so low that we learn even these things to just pass the exam with flying colors. It is just ...

Wise According To Quran

"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire." (Surah Al-Imran:191-192) To determine the meaning of the expression , we look into the word ' albab ' which is the plural of lubb . Lexically, it means the essence . Since the essence of everything is its sum-total and the key to its nature and uses, therefore human wisdom has been called lubb, for wisdom is the essence of human nature. thus, 'albab' means ' the people of wisdom' Now the problem before us is how to identify the people of wisdom because the whole world claims to be wise. Not even a moron would be ready to admit b...

Hazrat Ibrahim (Aleyh As-salam) Knew It Long Before

"And thus did We show Abraham the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith](75)-So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "I like not those that disappear."(76)-And when he saw the moon rising, he said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray."(77)-And when he saw the sun rising, he said, "This is my lord; this is greater." But when it set, he said, "O my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allah.(78)- Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah."(79) Surah Al-An'am [6:75-79]

"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. " Al-Imran:190 -The background of revelation: Commenting on the background of revelation concerning these verses, Ibn Hibbaan in his Sahih and Ibn Asakir in his History have reported that the Companion 'Ata ibn Abi Rabah razi Allahu Anhu went to Sayyidah 'A'ishah razi Allahu Anhu and said to her: "Of the things about the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaehi wasallam, tell me what you saw as most unique out of the many states of his." Thereupon, Sayyidah 'A'ishah said: "Which state are you talking about? In reality, everything about him was unique. Yet, I would tell you about one very unique event. It so happened that the noble Prophet, may Allah bless and protect him, came to me one night and entered into the comforter with me. Then, he sai...

The Tablet Of Zaraoster

The next Taseen belonged to Zarathustra. Ahriman (the Devil) was trying to dissuade him from going out to preach. “It is true that you have found the Truth, but do not go out to teach the world,” Ahriman was telling him. “Remember the sad plight of the prophets that have passed before you. Noah couldn’t convert his people and had to pray for a flood in the end. Others were tortured and killed by their people. One who has found God should give up the world and sit in a corner with his wisdom, his eyes closed in perpetual meditation. That is far better than prophet-hood.” And thus spoke Zarathustra to Ahriman, “The light of God is like a sea, and I am the greatest storm born in its bosom so far. It is my calling to destroy the shores of darkness, and spread the light far and wide. This I must do. You cannot stop me by recounting the difficulties that may come with the task I have chosen. Love, in its perfection, cannot help reaching out to improve others.” Taken from: http:...
