by Dr. Mahmoud Esmail Sieny " The answer to an ill-deed is an ill-deed or the like thereof. But whosoever pardoneth and amendeth his reward is with Allaah. Surely, He does not love wrong doers." (Al Quran 42:40) History tells us that when Sultan Salahuddin regained Jerusalem from the invading and ruthless Crusaders, who had ninety years earlier massacred and savagely treated its Muslim and Jewish inhabitants, he met a group of Latin Christian women who addressed him, "O Sultan! You see that we are leaving. Among us are mothers, wives, daughters or sisters to the soldiers in captivity with you. These men are our support in life, and if we lose them we will lose everything. But if you leave them for our sake, you will be giving us back our lives." At this our hero Salahuddin smiled and he gave orders that the sons and husbands of those women were to be set free. He went even further and gave money to the women whose supporters were killed in the battle. An irate Frenc...
It so happens that we enter a room for a purpose but the moment we enter, we forget why we came altogether. Then in this brief period our attention diverts to some other task and we get engross in it. And after considerable time we suddenly remember the real task and we have a chance to complete it. The world is like that room, we entered in it with a purpose but we got distracted. before our time comes, we must do something about it or else, we'll be in " khasara" greatest loss after which there is no going back. Allah said so himself that life of a momin is difficult. there's a hadis, I cant remember the exact words the excerpt is: "The path to heaven is filled with thorns and the way to hell is laden with flowers." And that: " The world for a believer is like a prison" So now we are clear about our life and our destiny. both are...
A Person Disenthralled from Fear How might a man or woman actually act if s/he were truly emancipated from fear? Is this even imaginable? How might this manifest as solidarity, equality, and freedom? What might this look like, in the everyday concrete world? What might it look like, in the world, if, as Allama Iqbal has shared, people were to discover God in themselves? What sorts of so-called personal qualities would appear as a result of a new actualization of Tauheed? What qualities would (naturally) manifest through/across humanity as a result of a living Tauheed? What I offer here are some ideas - certainly not definitive - as an example of what this might look like. I also offer this as a follow-up on the excellent post by Noor. I can offer only what my thimble-of-a-mind can comprehend of this potential range of possibilities and human evolution. As I share...
